The Tang Priest then 'takes the monster, who turns out to be Zhu Bajie, or Pig, as his second disciple. Together Monkey, Pig, and the Tang Priest continue the journey to the West to obtain the Buddhist scriptures.
The next book in the series:
The next volume in the series, Friar Sand Joins the Pilgrims, tells what happens when the Tang Priest Xuan-zang and his two disciples reach the Flowing Sands River, which an ogre prevents them from crossing. Pig battles with the ogre, and when it becomes clear he is in trouble. Monkey appeals to the Bodhisattva Guan-yin for help. She sends her disciple Moksa to subdue the ogre, whom Xuanzang then takes on as his third disciple, renaming him Friar Sand. Vissza
