A. A. Milne, born in London in 1882, was already a popular playwright and a journalist on the staff of Punch magazine when When We Were Very Young was published in 1924. He had met E.V. Lucas, Chairman of Methuen, at Punch and Milne's association with Methuen lasted over 45 years. A. A. Milne, born in London in 1882, was already a popular playwright and a journalist on the staff of Punch magazine when When We Were Very Young was published in 1924. He had met E.V. When We Were Very Young was followed by Winnie-the-Pooh in 1926, Now We Are Six in 1927 and The House at Pooh Corner in 1928. Milne married in 1913 and always acknowledged that it was his wife, and his son, Christopher Robin, who gave life to the nursery animals which were the inspiration for his stories, Wmnie-the-Pooh and The House at Pooh Corner.
A.A. Milne died in 1956, aged 74.
