This volume comprises studies devoted to literary science and the comparative method, and studies on European and Hungárián romanticism and the Marxist interprétation of the comparative theory. However, none of these questions can be treated divorced from a comprehensive approach to literary conceptions and historical processes.
In his studies on romanticism the author examines the emergence of European romanticism and the prob-lems of periodization. He tries to allot the right place of the romanticism of Eastern European literatures in the corresponding historical processes. The author concludes by considering romanticism as part and parcel of a grand literary transformation beginning with the seventies of the eighteenth cen-tury. A remarkable theoretical study in the volume elucidates the theory of Goethe's "other nature" by applying it to literary phenomena. Two studies focus attention on a spécifié relation-ship existing between Hungárián and world poetry.
