MASADA
Masada is more than a mountain fortress. It is a silent monument to an act of heroism the like of which the world has seen only few.
Nine hundred and sixty men, women and children defended Masada for more than a year against the Roman Tenth Legion. Finally realizing that their efforts were in vain, they decided to take their own lives rather than be led as slaves to Rome. Despite their ultimate failure, their spirit was a source of inspiration throughout the long centuries until Israel could proclaim "Masada will not fall again".
The book tells the story of Masada against the background of the history of the period. It integrates history and geography to give the reader an appreciation of the true glory of this great mountain. It also tells the exciting story of how Masada was discovered, excavated and restored.
