Exploring the Magic of Special-Effects Photography
To create conceptual photography, which includes special effects, a photographer must bring together disparate ideas in an arresting, provocative way. Achieving striking images depends upon their fusion. No one is more successful at this than Michel Tcherevkoff, who is internationally known for his unique special-effects photography.
In this book, Michel Tcherevkoff, today's preeminent conceptual photographer, delves into the process by which he conceives and executes his ideas. From the moment when a client discusses his needs to the appearance of the photograph in a print ad or promotional piece, Tcherevkoff describes, in an engaging, witty text, how he comes up with the innovative and daring concepts that characterize his work. Specially constructed models, multicolored and sequenced lights, and painted backgrounds are among the elements that transform his visualizations into magical images on film.

THE IMAGE MAKER
Michel Tcherevkoff
Michel Tcherevkoff is the preeminent conceptual photographer working today and is internationally known for his unique special-effects photography. In Tcherevkoff: The Image Maker, seventy-eight of his dazzling images are accompanied by text in which he describes the diverse elements he uses to make his entrancing photographs.
Conceptual photography, which includes special effects, is dependent on the confluence of unexpected ideas to create arresting images. With charm and wit, Tcherevkoff explains how he came up with each concept and how he executed it. The previsualization that was necessary becomes clear. Specially constructed models, multicolored and sequenced lights, and painted backgrounds are among the elements that transform a concept into a magical image on film.
Tcherevkoff has illustrated books for National Geographic and created images for an armual report for Frank B. Hall, a recruitment campaign for AT&T, covers for such magazines as Science Digest, Omni, and Parents, and corporate advertising for many companies, including Federal Express, Bell Laboratories, General Electric, and General Motors. Examples of this work form the basis of the book. Tcherevkoff talks about how he begins his relationship with a client, how problems are presented and solved, and how a picture is finally used on the printed page. In addition, the book includes images Tcherevkoff made for himself, for fun and to experiment.
This book is indispensable to every photographer who does conceptual and special-effects photography or wants to enter the field. And anyone who enjoys photography will enjoy this book.
