more and more important that an agreed international vocabulary is
settled for the many specialist terms and descriptions involved in the
construction industry. Heating, ventilating and air conditioning are
among the more complex specializations, making the need for an
internationally agreed vocabulary in these areas even greater.
The International Dictionary of Heating, Ventilating and Air Condit-
ioning is the result of a collaborative effort by an international panel of
professional engineers set up by REHVA. All panel members have
considerable experience in these specialist engineering fields and are

The International Dictionary of Heating, Ventilating and Air Condit-
ioning is the result of a collaborative effort by an international panel of
professional engineers set up by REHVA. All panel members have
considerable experience in these specialist engineering fields and are
responsible for the terms presented in their own tongue, thus ensuring
the accuracy and general acceptability of the terms and translations
given.
The dictionary covers 11 languages as well as English: French,
German, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, Danish, Finnish, Swedish, Hungarian,
Russian and Polish. It has two major sections. The first consists of
some 4000 terms, given in alphabetical order in English, with their
translations listed in all other languages beneath. The second section
consists of alphabetical indexes for each of the other languages with
reference back to the entry number in the first section.
The book will be an invaluable reference for all manufacturers,
contractors and consulting engineers engaged in heating, ventilating
and air conditioning throughout the EC and Eastern Europe.
REHVA is an organization of professional associations of heating and
air conditioning engineers from 18 European countries. It aims to
facilitate the development of such building services and improve their
design and installation by promoting the sharing of technical knowledge
