King
When Red comes across a wounded soldier called "Artorius" in the woods outside the City, he is reminded of the story his mother, Bron, told him of the king who sleeps under the hill and who will one day return to save his country.
Very soon Red, Bron and her newborn baby find themselves in desperate need of Arthur's help when they are banished from the City by the Guardians. In a world made barren and hostile by nuclear catastrophe and inhabited by the hideously deformed Outmen and Outbeasts, cannibals, Magickers and War Lords, they seem to have little hope of survival. They receive unexpected assistance, however, from the fiery Travellers and in particular from young Joss and Rosie, with whom Red soon becomes great friends. Meeting up once more with Arthur, the fugitives set out on a perilous journey to the Isles of the Blest where Red hopes to discover the secret of the Forbidden Knowledge.
