ABOUT THE BOOK:
The Major Training Areas Grafenwoehr, Hohenfels, Wildflecken and the Combined Arms Training Center, Vilseck are the pillars of U.S. Army and NATO training in Europe. The Grafenwoehr Training Area was established more than 85 years ago, Hohenfels, Wildflecken and Vilseck date back to the late '30s. This book reviews the historical background, establishment and development of these facilities by the German army and documents the „American Era" that began with the end of World War II in 1945.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Paul Burckhardt is a native of the town of Auerbach which borders on the Grafenwoehr Training Area. In World War II he served with the Wehrmacht's armored infantry. Following basic training at the Grafenwoehr Training Area he saw action during the Allied invasion in
Normandy, France. After four years in prisoner of war camps in France, England, Scotland and Ireland he returned to his home town. Employed with the GTA and 7ATC since 1948 he became intimately... Tovább
