THE
METROPOLITAN OPERA
A complete and candid history of America's foremost lyric theater from its opening on October 22, 1883, to its last performance at Broadway and 39th Street on April 16, 1966, this is a revised and greatly expanded version of Mr. Kolodin's earlier hooks on the Metropolitan. Uniquely it supplies the entire story of the "old Metropolitan" and of the conception and creation of the "new Metropolitan" in Lincoln Center. Scrupulously researched and authenticated, the book is not an official history but a free report by a longtime critic and enthusiast who has been fascinated but not blinded or overwhelmed by what he has heard and seen in decades of operagoing. Completely reset and redesigned, with many new illustrations.
Illustrated with 183 photographs
