In The Millennium Myth, Michael Grosso highlights the chief prophetic vision of the Western world and where it may be leading us. We can see it, the author tells us, unfolding in the high-tech of today and tomorrow: space colonization, terra-forming, bioengineering, life-extension, cryonics—the lurch toward bionic super-humanity. Grosso's coinage, technocalypse, sums up his insight that technology is secretly driven by the Millennium Myth, a vision that is piloting human history toward recreating nature and reinventing humanity.
Grosso chronicles the visionary ideas of the medieval prophet Joachim of Fiore, the Renaissance magicians Pico and Ficino, the American founding fathers Paine and Jefferson and shows the millennial thread that runs through them all. No less does he expose the dark side of the Myth in the fanaticism that inflamed the Russian Revolution and the messianic madness that drove Adolf Hitler.
The author puts the American "New Age" and increasing reports of angelic contact, alien abduction, near-death visions and Virgin Mary sightings all in the context of apocalyptic hope and sees them as heralds of consciousness transformation.
Amid the chaos of change, the Millennium Myth reveals two mega-trends—two great goals that seem to be driving history. One is the abolition of death coupled with the creation of a new body. The other is the liberation of love, our potential for redefining work, art, and the human family.
History is about to take a quantum leap. Total destruction and total renovation for humanity are real possibilities. A paradise of abundance is as much an option as nuclear or environmental Armageddon.
Michael Grosso's Millennium Myth is a field guide for exploring the possibilities.
(continued from front flap)
For over twenty years, Michael Grosso has researched psychic phenomena and the more exotic potentials of humanlind. He believes that forces are awakening everywhere propelling humanity to powerful transformation. His work centers around assisting In this rebirthing—the philosopher as "midwife" in the evolutionary process.
Michael Grosso received his doctorate in philosophy from Columbia University. He has taught at the City University of New York, Kennedy University, and Marymount Manhattan College and has lectured and given workshops across the United States and abroad. He lives in rural New York, where he enjoys his extended family, paints pictures, and likes to lose himself gazing from his window at the Shawangunk mountains.
Dr. Grosso's fascinating insights and observations are shared in his previous books. The Final Choice, Frontiers of the Soul, and Soulmaker. In The Millennium Myth, he shifts attention from the hope of the personal to the hope of collective transformation. Vissza
