In this provocative book, David Bailey has put together an intriguing selection of great nude photographs, w^hich w^ere taken all over the world Lind which trace the development of the genre. Beiiley's choices reflect his own passionate interest in the techniques and history of photography. The collection includes male and female nudes and features images made by such noted photographers as Helmut Nevifton, Man Ray, Alfred Stieglitz, Bruce Weber, Bill Brandt, and Edward Weston, as well as those of photographers whose work is completely imknown or rarely seen.
The pictures are divided into four sections, Early Nudes, Modem Nudes, Eroticism & Glamour, and Nude Narratives. They are introduced by Martin Hetrrison's informative text and punctuated with Bailey's own incisive cormnents, which put the photographic nude in perspective both artistically and socicilly.
