In the two and a half centuries which have elapsed since George Sale first offered his tanslation of the Quran, various other English versions have been published. Almost all of them have suffered from the same limitation, in that they reflect the influence of the Arabic idiom in the English renderings. As a result, they have needed explanatory notes to compensate where the translations have failed to make their meanings clear.

As a result, they have needed explanatory notes to compensate where the translations have failed to make their meanings clear.
This new translation is timely. It combines a depth of Arabic scholarship and Islamic learning, with a felicitous command of English, while remaining strictly faithful to the text in meaning. The translation is free-flowing. That is, the verses are not broken up, but are grouped into larger paragraphs combining a set of verses, all properly indicated for ease of reference. This affords an accurate and yet more understandable transcription.
The Arabic text and the English translation are printed side by side, so a ready comparison is available. This volume promises to remain the most effective English version for many years to come. Vissza
