Following the dramatic political and economic changes during 1989-90, all central and eastern European countries have now entered the phase of transition from a command-type system to a market-oriented economy. In this endeavour, there is very little guidance in the economic literature on ways and means to deal with the complex issues to be faced during the transition period. This two-volume book, emanating from a conference co-sponsored by the World Bank in November 1990, deals with the issues and requirements for a successful economic transformation. It examines the lessons which can be drawn from economic development in a number of OECD Member countries and discusses the sequencing of policy measures in the transition. These volumes, part of a series published by the CCEET, are intended to add to the understanding of the problems facing central and eastern European economies in transition.
Apres les bouleversements politiques et économiques de 1989-90, tous les pays d'Europe centrale et orientale se trouvent aujourd'hui dans une phase de transition de l'économie centralement planifiée vers l'économie de marché. Les ouvrages économiques publiés jusqu'a présent ne sont pas d'un grand secours pour résoudre les problemes complexes que souleve cette transition. Cette publication en deux volumes, faisant suite a une conférence co-parrainée par la Banque Mondiale en novembre 1990, traite des principaux impératifs d'une transformation économique réussie. Elle analyse les leçons a tirer du développement économique de certains pays de l'OCDE et aborde la question de l'étalement dans le temps des réformes. Elle examine également les aspects sectoriels suivants : la mise en place d'institutions de marché et de marchés concurrentiels, la restructuration des entreprises, les problemes liés au marché du travail, la politique sociale et le chômage, les conditions structurelles de la stabilisation macro-économique, la balance des paiements, la libéralisation des échanges et la convertibilité, la réforme fiscale et le développement du secteur financier.
Cette série d'ouvrages publiés par le CCEET a pour but de mieux cerner les problemes auxquels se trouvent confrontées les économies en transition d'Europe centrale et orientale. Vissza
