In this volume the activity of the unconscious is analyzed in the higher forms of mental activity- At the same time the analysis deals with the topics of communication discreteness and continuity in language and thinking; the possibility is indicated of identifying the dynamics of pure meanings'. The problem of the dependence of the character traits and powers of personality on the activity of the unconscious is examined as well; the problem of the procédure and general methodology to be used in the study of the unconscious forms of mental activity is also considered. In conclusion, regarding the status of the scientific theory of the unconscious, keenly dis-cussed recently in psychoanalytic liter-ature, the basic principies are stated on the basis of which the editors think it advisable to continue the discussion of this problem.
