They knew each other well, as only people whose families have lived side by side for generations can know each other. Change had come in their lifetime but because they had lived so long with the old way they held on to it, taking it with them when they died.
Born near Newmarket, Co. Cork, Alice Taylor lives in Innishannon where her family runs the local ' supermarket and post office; she has four sons and one daughter. She is the author of two previous memoirs of country life, To School Through the Fields and Quench the Lamp, and of Close to the Earth: Poems of Country Life, An Irish Country Diary, An Evening with Alice Taylor (tape), and a children's book, The Secrets of the Oak.
