The first edition of this book emphasised
the established forms of medical treatment
for diseases of the nervous system. In this
revision the author has extended this
approach to include consideration of
neuropharmacological developments
which have therapeutic implications, even
though no impact on patient care has yet
emerged. Much of the original text has
been rewritten in the light of advances in
practical treatment that have taken place in
the last four years. These changes have
extended the book by seven chapters and
broadened its scope into areas where
controversy about differing approaches to
treatment sometimes occurs.
