TOWARDS a nEW PRICE REVOLUTIOIS
The phenomenon of rising prices is a familiar one throughout the world. But what factors shape prices? Béla Csikós-Nagy — the author of several outstanding works — examines this issue historically.
Investigating the secular price movements of seven centuries (1275-1975), he brings to light the law of price increases with their peculiarities. Three "episodes" of price history are highlighted: the price revolution of the 16th-17th centuries connected with the emergence of the capitalist mode of production; the trend of price decreases in the 19th century connected with the industrial revolution; and the steady inflation of the present.
A separate chapter is devoted to price fluctuations in the Soviet Union between the two World Wars, and to the price trends in the socialist countries after the Second World War. Here, the issues of open and repressed inflations are in the focus of examination.
The second part of the book looks into the future.... Tovább

A separate chapter is devoted to price fluctuations in the Soviet Union between the two World Wars, and to the price trends in the socialist countries after the Second World War. Here, the issues of open and repressed inflations are in the focus of examination.
The second part of the book looks into the future. The author attempts to clarify the new tendencies which give more chance for prices to increase than to decrease, not only from the aspect of money but from that of commodity flow, too. The humanization of production and environment protection are two main factors to which the author devotes particular attention. He challenges the validity of the law of diminishing returns and relates the tendency of increasing relative prices of natural resources to the endeavours of tbe Third World to catch up with the developed world. The new international economic order is also the subject of investigation and with it the two alternatives: trade war with price revolution, or an internationally harmonized price policy?
