Tropical Asia is one of the culturally richest regions in the world. It also has stunning natural features, which have allowed the region to be a major tourist destination. This lavishly photographed book is a celebration of the sensual qualities found in some of the most exciting resorts of the region.

Others are directly inspired by a reverence for the pristine environment in which they are located.
The designers' appreciation of climatic and cultural factors, as well as their awareness of working in specific localities, is intense and confident. The wide range of projects, with their tactile sensuality, emphasizes the special qualities of tropical design crafted as settings for a particular vision of living.
Showcasing a wide range of invigorating works, the book also incorporates many of the evocative presentation techniques of the two practices. It hopes to convey the expressive potency of qualities found in these exhilarating projects. Threatened by the forces of globalization, these works grew out of a poetic way of thinking - one that comes close to the ideal of "paradise living" - commonly termed "lifestyle resorts".
These buildings are truly architecture of empathy — one that grounds resort guests in the rich cultural environment and the poetics of place. Tracing the evolution of the projects from inspiration to conception and realisation, the book will appeal to readers across a wide spectrum, but who generally appreciates good design, resort living and cultural diversity.
