This volume is a collection of studies that focuses on the concepts that have shaped Romanian cultural and political identity. It analyzes the dominant ideologies of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries as well as their sociopolitical impact, and discusses the formation of the Romanian national state and its transition towards modernity by means of concepts such as patriotism, ethno-culture, property, and constitution. It highlights the importance of regional, communitarian-linguistic or religious diversity in view of an accurate understanding of Romania as a result of multiple influences and cultural heritages. It reveals a number of essential aspects regarding the formation of socio-political languages and mentalities as a result of the translation or import of words, notions and concepts.
