"It's Not Enough to Be Hungárián" is the story of a man whose acting career spanned two conti-nents, extended through six decades, and made a successful transition from stage to siient films to "talkies."
The first truly international film star, Victor Varconi appeared in over 150 films in the United States and Europe, as well as numerous stage and television productions. He was a star of both silent and sound films, and this book-his life story -includes reminiscenses of a variety of customs and personalities from widely dispa-rate times and locales. From the first Communist regime in Hungary to the days of silent-film Hollywood, from the rise of Hitlerian Germany to the first big technicolor musicals, "It's Not Enough to Be Hungárián" is a unique and intimate view of exciting times, seen through the eyes of a vitai, vibrant personality.
Victor Varconi, whose real name is Mihály Vár-konyi, was born in Kisvarda, Hungary in 1891. After completing his formai education at the < Budapest Commercial Academy he auditioned * for the Hungárián Royal Academy of Acting, was accepted, and his Professional acting ! career was launched.
<
After the interruption of World War I, when he served on the Russian front, Victor returned to Hungary and became a leading man with the National Theater of Budapest. His motion picture career began in 1913, when he starred in f "Csikós," the first Hungárián motion picture to be produced. From there he went to Berlin, where he starred opposite Pola Negri in "CamiHe," and to Austria, where he helped establish the Aus-trian film industry.
In 1924, Victor was brought to Hollywood by Cecil B. DeMille, who directed him in many films, including "King of Kings," "The Volga Boatman," "The Plainsman," and "Uncon-quered."
Ed Honeck has always wanted to write a book, but the fun kept getting in the way.
Born in Milford, Connecticut, Ed now lives in Southern California. As an actor, public rela-tions man, weekend warrior, cowboy, advertis-ing executive, and sports fan, Ed is a recluse who likes people as much as trivia. He is cur-rently working on a novella, The Great Vacation.
Ed likes London, tequila, the name Martha Anne, and the staircase of the Dolder Grand Hotel in Zürich. Vissza
