Berlin is a place of discovery. This is where numerous sites of historical significance await exploration, the Brandenburg Gate, the Wall and the Reichstag just three of the better known. A unique complex of museums has artefacts from the Ancient World to the present day on display; modern architecture is also in abundance - and not just on the reclaimed no-man's-land of Potsdamer Platz. Berlin: capital city, cosmopolis and one of the great metropolises of Europe where yesterday, today and tomorrow are closer together than anywhere else on the Continent. Buildings such as the Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag tell of the city's turbulent past; standing in front of the glass tent of the Sony Center on Potsdamer Platz, the future becomes the present. The museums supervised by the Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz document over 6,000 years of cultural history, with the bright young things of the Love Parade celebrating the joys of here and now. Where the buzz of the city is omnipresent in the three inner districts of City-West, City-Ost and city within a city Potsdamer Platz, the more rural outer suburbs effuse a dreamy counliyside chami. Life in Berlin is rich and colourful, its many trendy pubs, exotic restaurants and huge range of cultural events - ranging from the music hall lo the opera, from serious iheaire to experimental art - providing locals and visitors alike with an ovei-whehning array of evening entertainment.
Over 230 photographs show Berlin in all its wonderful diversity, with six specials focussing on the BerUn Wall, the Brandenburg Gate, museum island, the city's theatres, its villas and the debate on the reconsiruction of Berlin's old palace.

The new focal point at the intersection of what were East and West Beriin is the Sony Center on Potsdamer Platz. The restaurants and cinemas of the futurist piazza are encased by a huge glass roof which sparkles many different colours al night.
