Compiling the photographs for this book brought back great memories of all the time I have spent travelling throughout West Virginia looking for photographs. From the mountain peaks to the river banks, from Dolly Sods to the Greenbrier Hotel, I truly love our state, and I hope it shows in these photographs.
The roots of this love and appreciation come from my father, who spent his childhood days hiking and hunting in his native Greenbrier county. As a boy, I heard stories about his outdoor adventures. As I grew, he showed me the trees and wildlife he found so special.
West Virginia's natural beauty truly makes it almost heaven—and a photographers' playground. When you first think of taking pictures in West Virginia, the amazing fall color comes to mind. But year around our state offers much more than that. And all you need to capture this beauty is the simplest of cameras. West Virginia will provide the rest.
