This superbly illustrated guide identifies over 1,200 species of wild flowers to be found throughout Europe. Each of the detailed main descriptions is accompanied by a full-colour photograph showing the plant in natural habitat, while the specific diagnostic features of many additional species are clearly emphasised in meticulous line drawings.
An extensive introduction includes excellent practical advice on how to interpret plant structures, an account of the major types of habitat and a summary of the family groups of wild flowers. Notes on field equipment, a discussion on conservation and a list of areas of outstanding botanical interest are just some of the other useful sections in the book.

Bob Press is a member of the Department of Botany at the Natural History Museum in London. As a professional botanist he has studied European, Asian, Himalayan and North African plants. His current work involves the conservation and biodiversity of European flora. He has written numerous publications, including both scientific works and popular field guides. Major contributions to the text of this Photographic Field Guide were also made by Barry Tebbs, an experienced field botanist, who has written several identification guides and many articles for wildlife magazines, and Nick Turland, who has travelled widely in Europe to study plants and has a particular interest in the flora of the eastern Mediterranean.
Bob Gibbons, photographic consultant on this book, trained as a botanist and is both a freelance photographer and writer. His previous publications include guides to plant biology, insects and wildlife photography, and many popular illustrated titles on wildlife. Margaret Tebbs, who provided the line drawings, is a botanical illustrator based at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Her work is highly regarded internationally and she contributes scientific artwork to many publications. Vissza
