About the Book This book on ion exchange is a practical review of all aspects of water purification using resin-based technology. Starting with water chemistry and the basics operational features of resins, the gamut of ion exchange technologies from softening to the preparation of ultra-quality water is discussed in detail. Using diagrammatic and text models, rather than elaborate chemical theory, readers will acquire a working knowledge of resin systems. Great emphasis is given to the cation-anion two bed unit and to the mixed bed polisher, including the development of performance expectations, the impact of new technology, and detailed troubleshooting suggestions. Special topics include the use of resin systems in the microelectronics industry, resin-membrane combinations, and a cogent explanation of weak and strong resin chemistries, as well as practical applications. A major chapter of the book gives explicit recommendations for vessel inspection, resin sampling and analysis,... Tovább

A major chapter of the book gives explicit recommendations for vessel inspection, resin sampling and analysis, as well as interpreting the resin analysis report and cleaning options. The last, and largest chapter is a point by point development of the underlying engineering and chemistry of the strong acid and strong base demineralizer, as an introduction to design considerations. The approach in this book is eminently practical and directly useful at the plant level, as well as at engineering and management levels. About the Author William Bornak has specialized in water treatment for 32 years, developing particular expertise in resin- and membrane-based demineralization for high pressure boilers and the microelectronics industry. His consulting business, Aqueous Solutions, is known for troubleshooting systems in dire circumstances, and greatly increasing the efficiency and reliability of faltering plants. He is renown for presenting highimpact training seminars that increase productivity in a plant environment. In 2001 he formed a new corporation, Recirculation Technologies Inc. (RTI) with former Betz vice president, Bob Finley, to purchase the mobile resin cleaning operation from the company. Since then, they have revitalized the business and pioneered new technology in on-site membrane cleaning. A member of several technical societies, Bill has lectured extensively in North and South America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. He has published numerous papers on specialized topics in water chemistry and ion exchange. Trained as an analytical chemist, he graduated with a B.A. in chemistry from LaSalle University in Philadelphia and did graduate work in biochemistry at the University of Pennsylvania. He has worked in ion exchange for both Rohm and Haas and (then) Betz Laboratories, where he was water plant consultant and training director. Vissza
