This introduction is followed by a magnificent sequence of 90 colour plates, reproducing the finest works in the collection. The plates are grouped according to national schools, and each has a clear and informative commentary. The Alte Pinakothek is particularly renowned for its collection of Old Germán Masters, such as Altdorfer, Dürer, Cranach, Grünewald and Holbein; alsó for its superb paintings from the Low Countries by Rubens, Rembrandt, Van Dyck, Jan and Pieter Bruegel. The rest of Europe is well represented too, with paintings from Spain by Goya, Murillo, Velázquez and El Greco; from Italy, by Fra Angelico, Botticelli, Leonardo, Tiepolo, Tintoretto and Veronese; and from France, with paintings by Poussin and Boucher. In addition to the colour plates there are over 150 black and white reproductions, displaying the full wealth of this remarkable collection. Vissza
