Dr. Madas, Chairman of the Timber Committee of the European Economic Commission, presents an overall review of the world's forests, and forecasts their possible development up to the year 2000. He relies upon the results of theoretical analyses, various plans, FAO-ECE pubiications, and works by renowned forestry economists. He concludes that a harmonious combination of the various functions of forests may lead to their optimum utilization.
